The Root Chakra (Muladhara)

Muladhara-The Root Chakra

The root chakra, located at the base of the spine, is responsible for your sense of safety and security on this journey. It is the root of one’s being and establishes the deepest connections with one’s physical body, environment and with the Earth. Muladhara is the most instinctual of all chakras. It is the survival center.

Signs This Chakra is Out Of Balance

Difficulty feeling safe in the world — everything seems potentially risky. This can lead to concerns over the job situation, physical safety, shelter, health. Signs of an imbalance include excessive negativity, eating disorders, greed, low energy, clumsiness and living in survival mode.

Signs This Chakra is Healthy

A sense of deep connection may occur. One may learn to listen to their higher self and avoid the wants of the lower self, experience a boost in energy, positivity, love, compassion, and an increased sense of connectedness to life.

By having a healthy series of chakras, your mind and body will be at ease.
Use the following tools to create a more balanced Root Chakra.

Crystals/Gems/Rocks/Stones

To restore balance, these can be placed directly on the chakra to which it is related during meditation or relaxation. One may also carry in a pocket, wear as jewelry or even place in a room where you’d like this chakra’s energies to take precedence.
Bloodstone, Garnet, Ruby, Black Tourmaline, Red Tiger’s Eye, Smoky Quartz

Incense/Candles/OILS

There are specific scents associated with each chakra, and by using the appropriate scent you can help restore the chakra to normal function. You may burn incense or a candle. Oils may be placed directly on the chakra, added to bath water or used with a diffuser.
Patchouli, Cypress, Ginger, Cedar Wood

Herbals

Just as chakras are centers of energy, plant life carries its own energy vibrations which can be used to match, stimlate or balance the vibrations of specific chakras. These can be used by drinking as a tea, used as a seasoning on food, as herbal remedy in various forms (lotions, tablets, creams, etc.)

Ginger Root, Ginseng, Dong Quai, Yucca, Echinacea, Damiana

Affirmations

Affirmations are brief statements of intention that can help in rebalancing chakras. The more you repeat your selected affirmation statement, the more you draw similar energies to you while also triggering your subconcious to accept what you are saying as true or a state that is already in existence. In addition to repeating to yourself throughout the day and in meditation, you may also write on a post-it and place it in a common area where you will see it regularly.
“I am well-grounded and balanced.”
“I am connected to my body.”
“I feel safe and secure.”
“I am deeply connected to my Earth mother.”
“I am grateful for all the challenges that led me to grow and transform.”

Bija Mantra

The Bija mantras are one-syllable seed sounds that, when said aloud, activate the energy of the chakras in order to purify & balance the mind & body. Chant the bija mantras, either one at a time or in sequences. Repetition can help you access a meditative state.

About Bloodstone

Bloodstone, characterized by its dark green color and presence of red (often subtle), helps to ground one in the physical world, relieve depression or anxiety, and focus on the “here and now,” as well as “next steps.” It heightens intuition and creativity. It is grounding and protecting — drawing off negative environmental energy and helping to overcome influences such as stress.
